The Best Youtube Channels For Learning English

Hi Guys!

In today’s post we are going to be taking a look at the best place on Youtube for learning English. Now, we already know that Youtube is a huge site which means that there are no shortage of places for you to go to brush up on your English skills, but here are some of the best channels for you to check out!

Already one of the more popular EFL Youtube channels. Bob is a school teacher from Toronto, Canada who lives on a farm with his family. Bob initially started his channel for fun a few years ago, however over the years it has grown into a huge success.

Bob’s channel is great for learning everyday English. Bob takes his followers to all manner of places, from hotels to hardware stores. His accent is very clear and easy to follow, though he also subtitles his videos so that they are appropriate for all levels.

The good thing about FluentU English is that it uses real world content to teach English, meaning that it is great for learning actual practical English.

If you want to learn English with your favourite actor, Great! FluentU will have tons of content to help you manage this. Each of these videos is broken down and the English grammar and vocabulary is carefully explained.

If learning British is your goal, look no further. The BBC adds new content to its Youtube channel daily in a variety of different formats so things never get stale. You may also be interested in using the BBC News Review feature which breaks down news features into more colloquial English.

The BBC has a potential advantage to other videos on this channel as every video is created by a whole team of experts rather than one or two passionate youtubers.

On the other hand, if you would prefer to learn American English, Rachel’s English is a great place to start. On her channel Rachel uses famous American movies and Tv series to teach everyday vocabulary.

Perhaps Rachel’s specialty is teaching pronunciation. As Rachel herself is a trained classical singer, she is very good at explaining exactly how to position their mouths and tongues to nail that pronunciation.

Another great channel for those more interested in American English. VOA has a wide variety of different classes. These classes cover vocabulary, grammar along with colloquial idioms.

These classes feature ‘mock news reports’ with English teachers reading the news at a slower pace with subtitles to help lower levels follow along.

For those of you who would prefer a more academic focus this is the channel for you. The presenter, Derek Muller, offers very clear pronunciation at a slow speed. Although the videos contain very academic English the tone is light and conversational.

Another American on the list. Vanessa is great because she makes learning English fun! Those of you who are particularly interested in improving your spoken English should enjoy this channel.

A great channel for those struggling with pronunciation. Emma is from York originally so this channel is great for those of you who would like to master English pronunciation.

Lucy Earl is a professional English teacher and vlogger, she also runs the English With Lucy Youtube channel. Lucy’s channel includes great tips on how to pronounce like a native speaker, idioms and how to improve your fluency. Lucy also subtitles all of her videos meaning that they are suitable for all levels.

One of the older channels on this list, Mr Duncan has been providing lessons on Youtube for over 10 years now. This channel is great for people who want to learn how to speak ‘the Queen’s English’ as Duncan has a very upper class English accent.

Mr Duncan covers everything from idioms to grammar and colloquial vocabulary in his hour long free livestreams which he runs three times per week. The live streams are great as Mr Duncan can answer questions in real time.

This channel is an interesting one as it is not actually run by a native English speaker! Yes, that’s correct Marina was born and raised in Russia and moved to the USA in 2015. These videos are particularly useful for those studying business English as this is a topic that Marina likes talking about in her videos.

I hope you have found this list helpful, take a look for yourself and see which channels you like the best!
