In today’s blog post we are going to talk to the newest member of the Teachify team, Iona Reid!
Teachify continues to grow and so does its team of professional English teachers. We are very precise during selection process to ensure you get the best possible service and Iona was a must when a position became available.
So Iona, to begin with where are you from?
I’m from the city of Glasgow, Scotland.
Great! So what brings you to Spain?
I missed teaching English, and decided to look for teaching jobs in Europe as I had lived and taught in Thailand before, but wanted to live in a country a little closer to home. I needed some sun in my life and was looking for a new challenge, to experience a new culture and have an adventure.
I was very lucky to have been hired by a school in Seville and I’m still here three and a half years later (I only planned to live here for 9 months.
Wow! And what do you enjoy doing in your free time?
I am a very social person, so I like to spend lots of time with my friends, meeting new people and travelling when I can. I also really enjoy weight lifting, yoga and eating tapas in the sun.
Tell us what your favourite food is along with your favourite Spanish Tapa.
I love any type of Asian food, especially if it’s spicy! Ohhh, that’s a hard one but I think it would have to be Tortilla con salsa al whisky (obviously the tortilla MUST have onion!)
Who is your hero and why?
This is a hard one because I am lucky to have so many inspiring women in my life, but I think I would have to say my mum. She was a single parent, whilst studying at university and working.
I really don’t know how she managed to do all that and still be such an amazing Mum. She made me the hardworking and independent woman I am, so I have a lot to thank her for!
Do you have a hidden talent you would like to share?
Everyone always says I could make friends with anyone (apparently including a brick wall) So maybe that is my hidden talent?
I'm sure that counts! So tell us what motivates you at work?
I love seeing my students’ confidence grow and their English improve little by little. It’s such a nice feeling watching your shy and nervous student become more confident and chatty! I also feel very lucky to meet so many new people and learn about their interesting lives and cultures.
Great! So more importantly - what is your go to Karaoke song?
Eminem – Lose Yourself…I was obsessed with him when I was younger.
And what annoys you most?
How coriander is used in so many of my favourite types of food (I really hate coriander)
If you won the lottery, what would you do?
Buy a house for my mum and take all my friends and family on a big holiday. Invest in my friend who is a Fashion Designer and her company. Travel the world and buy myself a house with a nice view of the beach, and a garden to grow my own fruit and vegetables.
What are you looking forward to most now you have joined the Teachify family?
I’m looking forward to embracing the remote worker lifestyle and travelling a lot more, and also travelling to Scotland more often to visit my family. Also working with a really interesting, like minded group of people!
What is your advice to our followers when it comes to learning English?
Try to make learning English part of your daily routine and make it enjoyable by listening to podcasts, music, watching youtube videos, movies or series. Also try to find a language exchange partner that you can practise with in between your English classes.
Great! Anything else you would like to add?
Just that I’m looking forward to hopefully meeting you all soon!
So, that’s all from Iona. We are very proud to have her form part of the Teachify family and also add a new accent for all you amazing Teachifyers!
If you haven’t had class with Iona yet, you can now book directly at Teachify.
