Heart of Gold is one of Neil Young’s most popular songs, due to a back injury Young was unfortunately unable to play his electric guitar for a period of time resulting in him composing this soft acoustic folk song. The songs simple lyrics detail a man desperately searching for his soulmate.

[/vc_column_text][vc_custom_heading text=»Music can be an excellent tool for learning English as it can introduce you to loads of new interesting vocabulary, idioms and other turns of phrases. Why I’ve chosen this song
[/vc_column_text][vc_custom_heading text=»That said, I am sure that we are all slightly sick of seeing the same old Beatles and Queen songs come up in class again and again (Bohemian Rhapsody and When I’m 64 anyone?) Although these are undoubtedly great songs by fantastic artists I do think that they are becoming slightly over played and a tad overused as tools for learning English.» font_container=»tag:h2|font_size:16|text_align:left» google_fonts=»font_family:Lato%3A100%2C100italic%2C300%2C300italic%2Cregular%2Citalic%2C700%2C700italic%2C900%2C900italic|font_style:400%20regular%3A400%3Anormal»][vc_custom_heading text=»I think that this is a shame, especially when there are so many other great songs out there which are also perfectly suitable for learning English. Other great albums
[/vc_column_text][vc_custom_heading text=» Neil Young spans a wide range of genres, for many he is known as the Godfather of Grunge due to his dirty guitar riffing on albums such as Everyone Knows This is Nowhere and Tonight’s the Night, for others he’s the folky singer song writer who penned great songs such as Harvest Moon, Old Man & The Needle and the Damage Done.» font_container=»tag:h2|font_size:16|text_align:center|color:%23e8e8e8″ google_fonts=»font_family:Lato%3A100%2C100italic%2C300%2C300italic%2Cregular%2Citalic%2C700%2C700italic%2C900%2C900italic|font_style:400%20regular%3A400%3Anormal»][vc_video link=»https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X3IA6pIVank»][vc_tta_accordion style=»modern» color=»sky» c_align=»center» autoplay=»3″ c_icon=»» active_section=»1″][vc_tta_section title=»¿Qué es Teachify? » tab_id=»1544686597230-cca560bc-78b1″][vc_column_text]

Some of the interesting vocab used in the song:
Miner: a person who digs for valuable minerals in the ground.
Heart of Gold: A Righteous person, or Somebody who has a good heart.
Fine Line: A small difference between two things that may seem similar.

A great artist!

For the first song in this series I have selected Neil Young’s Heart of Gold from his 1972 masterpiece album Harvest. Unfortunately I feel like Neil Young is rather criminally overlooked here in Spain, despite him being one of Canada’s most beloved singer song writers. For some his voice can take some time to get used to but he is undoubtedly an incredible song writer.

I want to live
I want to give
I’ve been a miner for a heart of gold
It’s these expressions
I never give
That keep me searching for a heart of gold
And I’m getting old
Keep me searching for a heart of gold
And I’m getting old
I’ve been to Hollywood
I’ve been to Redwood
I crossed the ocean for a heart of gold
I’ve been in my mind
It’s such a fine line
That keeps me searching for a heart of gold
And I’m getting old
Keeps me searching for a heart of gold
And I’m getting old
Keep me searching for a heart of gold
You keep me searching and I’m growing old
Keep me searching for a heart of gold
I’ve been a miner for a heart of gold
