Jack's Music Box: Fleetwood Mac - Landslide

Hi Guys!

In today’s edition of Jack’s Music Box, we are going to be taking a look at Landslide by Fleetwood Mac.

About the Artist

Fleetwood Mac are a band with a very long and complicated history. The band were originally founded by blues guitar player Peter Green, drummer Mick Fleetwood and bassist John McVie in 1967.

This version of the band was very much rooted in the blues. They scored their first number one hit in 1968 with Albatross. Other popular songs from this era include Oh Well and Man of the World.

By the end of the 1960s Fleetwood Mac were one of the most well respected blues bands in the UK, however the band went through several significant sound changes in the 1970s due to members leaving and new members joining. These changes continued until the mid 1970s when the band arrived at what is perhaps their most famous line up with Stevie Nicks, Lindsay Buckingham, Christine McVie, John McVie and Mick Fleetwood. With this line up the band released 2 of their most commercially successful and critically acclaimed albums, Fleetwood Mac in 1975 and Rumours in 1977.

From this point on the band were global superstars, however due to internal, tensions the band broke up in the late 1980s. Reforming only a few times over the next few decades for sporadic performances.

About the Song

Landslide was written by Stevie Nicks and originally appeared on the band’s 1975 album Fleetwood Mac. Nicks apparently wrote the song when she was considering whether she should go back to school or continue with her music career.

Listen to the song below:

The Lyrics

I took my love, I took it down
I climbed a mountain and I turned around
And I saw my reflection in the snow-covered hills
‘Till the landslide brought me down

Oh, mirror in the sky, what is love?
Can the child within my heart rise above?
Can I sail through the changing ocean tides?
Can I handle the seasons of my life?

Well, I’ve been afraid of changing
‘Cause I’ve built my life around you
But time makes you bolder
Even children get older
And I’m getting older too

Well, I’ve been afraid of changing
‘Cause I’ve built my life around you
But time makes you bolder
Even children get older
And I’m getting older too
Oh, I’m getting older too

Oh, take my love, take it down
Oh, climb a mountain and turn around
And if you see my reflection in the snow-covered hills
Well the landslide will bring it down
And if you see my reflection in the snow-covered hills
Well the landslide will bring it down, oh oh
The landslide will bring it down
