Great Books to Help Bring Your English to the Next Level
Hi Guys!
As we have been speaking a lot about reading recently, in today’s post we are going to be taking a look at some great books to help bring your English to the next level.
Reading can be a brilliant way of familiarizing yourself with new vocabulary and grammar concepts. That said, you will want to be at a decent level (B2+) of English before attempting any of the books on this reading list.
1. Harry Potter by JK Rowling
This book needs no introduction. Many of you have probably read this book before, however giving it a reread in English can be a great entry point into reading in English.
As the book is targeted towards kids/teenagers/young adults, the language is very simple so it shouldn’t be too difficult to read.
2. The Book Thief by Marcus Zusak
Originally a German book, this historical novel has been translated into over 60 languages and was even made into a film in 2013!
The book follows a young girl as she comes of age in Nazi Germany who uses the power of reading and writing to tell her own story.
3. The Old Man & the Sea by Ernest Hemmingway
The last major fiction book published in Hemmingway’s lifetime, The Old Man & the Sea is a great choice for English learners as it’s a short book with only 127 pages.
The story is about an old Cuban fisherman, struggling to catch a giant fish.
4. A Million Little Pieces by James Frey
Later adapted to a film by the same name, A Million Little Pieces is the semi autobiographical story of a 23 year old alcoholic and drug addict in a rehabilitation centre.
5. The Curious Incident of the dog in the Nighttime by Mark Haddon
The Curious Incident of the dog n the Night-Time, follows the story of a 15 year old boy with Autism after he discovers the dead body of his neighbor’s dog.
This is a perfect book for those just getting used to reading in English as the way it is written is very easy to understand.
